Sample Collection

Sample Collection

The first step in acquiring a quality lab test result for any patient is the specimen collection procedure. The venipuncture procedure is complex, requiring both knowledge and skill to perform. Several essential steps are required for every successful collection procedure

The prospect of spending hours at the lab or hospital deters many or at least prompts them to defer stepping out for diagnostic tests. Understanding the need for taking diagnostic services to homes, IRIS Diagnostics offers the Home Collection. Trained Phlebotomist arrives at the door step of the patient to collect samples.

Histopathology

Histopathology

Histology is the study of the microscopic anatomy of humans, animals and plants. Analysis of the naturally occurring cell types and the state of the tissue architecture is often used as an indication of health status or disease processes. Histopathology refers to the use of these techniques in the specific analysis of the signs and characteristics associated with disease or abnormalities such as abnormal growth, inflammatory disease, infection and cancer.

Services we Offer:

  • Whole organ and histological analysis
  • High-throughput digital scanning
  • Mouse necropsies, tissue preparation and histological processing
  • Specialist comparative histopathology and mouse pathobiology service
  • Access to experienced veterinary and medical pathologists

cytology

cytology

Cytology is the microscopic examination of cell samples. These samples may sometimes be collected from the surface of the lesion under investigation, but more often, the sample is obtained by use of a special needle. Cytology is used for rapid or preliminary tests to establish a working diagnosis and plan surgery. The technique can be used to give rapid results at the time of surgery, but it does not indicate accurately the rate of growth of a mass. Cytology cannot show whether the cancer is invading surrounding tissues or if it has been completely removed.

The surgical pathology and Cytology section reports on the extracted tissue or cells from suspicious lesions through a special needle. Accurate cytology results have facilitated to reduce the number of open biopsies and surgeries done at the hospital.

Haematology

Haematology

Haematology is the study of blood formation and the diseases that can occur when this process goes wrong. The delivery of haematology services includes the enumeration and examination of blood cells, the determination of blood groups, compatibility testing of blood for transfusion and genetic and molecular studies.

The Department exists to provide comprehensive clinical and laboratory services to all patients with blood diseases, to teach the science of this subject to students and physicians and biologists and strive to enhance both these aspects through research and development. This includes leukemia, some forms of anemia (like Sickle Cell) and congenital (from birth) diseases like thalassaemia and hemophilia.

Clinical pathology

Clinical pathology

Clinical pathology supports the diagnosis of disease using laboratory testing of blood and other bodily fluids, tissues, and microscopic evaluation of individual cells. Our board-certified veterinary clinical pathologists and technologists provide laboratory results in a timely, efficient and thoughtful manner; supporting research, clinicians, referring veterinarians, and students in the diagnosis and treatment of many animal species.

Common laboratory tests include:

  • Blood chemistries
  • Blood cell analysis
  • Urinalysis
  • Faecal tests
  • Biopsy examination
  • Micro-organism culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing.

Microbiology

Microbiology

Microbiology testing services help ensure products are safer, meet quality specifications and regulatory compliance. Microbiology analysis is available for food and food ingredients, agricultural products, cosmetics, water, fuels, pharmaceuticals, and many other products and materials. The labs test for bacteria and fungi.

Microbiological Testing Capabilities:

  • Food Microbiological Testing Services
  • Antimicrobial Coatings Efficacy
  • Product Microbial Sanitation Claims Testing
  • Environmental Microbiology Consultancy and Testing
  • Microbiological Tests for Cosmetics and Personal Care Products

Serology

Serology

The Serology Lab performs testing for blood borne pathogens including HIV and Hepatitis B, analyzes blood specimens for diseases of public health significance, e.g. vaccine- preventable diseases, diseases transmitted from animals to humans and mosquito-borne diseases. The lab also participates in the investigation of disease outbreaks significant to public health and analyzes tissue specimens from animals suspected of exposing humans to rabies and plague.

A serology blood test is performed to detect and measure the levels of antibodies as a result of exposure to a particular bacteria or virus. When we are exposed to bacteria or viruses (antigens), the body’s immune system produces specific antibodies against the organism. Antibody levels (antibody titer) help physicians to determine whether an infection occurred recently, or occurred years ago.

Immunology

Immunology

Immunology is a branch of biomedical science that covers the study of immune systems in all organisms. We provide a comprehensive range of tests for the immunological investigation of patients together with a highest quality of service with prompt delivery of accurate results.

Specialist Immunology and Allergy physicians care for patients with a range of common and rare diseases that involve the immune system, including:

  • Allergic diseases
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Immunodeficiencies
  • Immunosuppression

Biochemistry

Biochemistry

The biochemistry section is a new generation laboratory, fully equipped with the latest state of the art technology. Analytes of serum and other body fluids are measured like routine and specific assays of proteins in serum, urine and cerebrospinal fluid, including specialized tests like oligoclonal protein banding. The laboratory accepts stat requests and aims for a rapid turn-around time on all samples.

This laboratory also applies mass spectroscopy for rapid detection of a broader array of toxic agents and drugs than possible with less advanced technology. The monitoring of immunosuppressant drugs such as cyclosporine and immunoglobulins is also done. Mass Spectrophometry also permits analysis of renal calculi within 30 minutes. Immunology section performs hormonal and other non-infectious assays using Chemiluminiscent Immunoassay (CLIA) Fluorescence intensity Luminescence, Fluorescence polarisation, and Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent(ELISA) assays. Of special note are the fetal lung reactivity profiles and alpha fetoprotein assays in serum and amniotic fluid for neural tube defect screening and tumor marker studies.

Molecular Genetics

Molecular Genetics

The molecular laboratory service provides genetic diagnosis for those families suffering from inherited conditions caused by mutation of specific single genes. Testing is performed using a variety of DNA analysis techniques to identify causative mutations or to track defective genes through families.

Molecular genetics Services We Offer:

  • General
  • Cell-free fetal DNA testing
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Skeletal Dysplasia
  • Craniosynostosis
  • Deafness
  • Immunodeficiencies
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Renal disorders
  • Next Generation Sequencing panels
